The Holy Spirit Thrift Shop began in August, 2007 in a small store front, staffed by eager volunteers. In response to significant growth, the HS Thrift Shop was moved to its present location on Hwy 59 in 2009. This allowed a much larger operation and allowed hiring a full-time, professional store manager. In addition to overseeing all operations of the Thrift Shop, the manager also coordinates the volunteers who provide much of the day-to-day operational labor.
Proceeds from the Holy Spirit Thrift Shop are distributed to support Episcopal ministries such as Camp Happy Sands, Camp Beckwith and financial aid to area Episcopal seminarians. Area charities such as Christian Service Center, South Baldwin Literacy Council, Hospice, Youth Reach Gulf Coast, Saving Grace for Women, among many others.
Beyond direct financial support, the HS Thrift Shop touches many people in many diverse ways. Items are given directly to people in need, and functional, lightly used items are sold to the public at very reasonable prices.
